Eels name Bevan Paul new NRL boss

NZN 13/05/2016

Parramatta have reportedly promoted leagues club boss Bevan Paul to group CEO to fill the breach, with five of their senior executives sidelined in the wake of the Eels' NRL salary cap dramas.

Chairman Steve Sharp, CEO John Boulos, football general manager Daniel Anderson and directors Tom Issa and Peter Serrao are challenging breach notices served on them by the NRL.

A Supreme Court injunction allowing the five to continue in their roles at the club was issued last Friday.

The quintet had been provisionally suspended among a raft of sanctions handed down by the NRL for alleged systemic salary-cap breaches.

Fairfax Media understands Paul has been put forward by the Eels as a result of his strong compliance background, something the club is desperate for with the cap scandal threatening to wipe out their 2016 season.

They need to win the majority of their remaining games to have any hope of qualifying for the playoffs.

Officials believe Paul, who was appointed Parramatta Leagues Club CEO in November 2013, also has the financial expertise to ensure the Eels can remain competitive while playing within the rules.
