Electrical fault caused factory fire

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 30/09/2016

The cause of a fire that destroyed the Total Plastics factory in west Auckland was electrical, police say.

About 100 firefighters battled to contain the fire at the factory in Henderson on Tuesday night.

A scene examination has been carried out and it corroborates information in a police investigation, including CCTV footage, police say on Friday.

The fire was not suspicious, they say.

Fire investigators said earlier that the building did not have sprinklers or an alarm system installed, which had made the damage worse. The fire was initially treated as suspicious.
