Hutt River © Wikimedia Hutt River The sight of an unmanned inflatable raft floating down a river in Upper Hutt has sparked fears for whoever might have been on it, police say.

Police officers saw the two-metre yellow inflatable raft float past the Taita rocks in the Hutt River at around 11am.

However, it was first spotted partly submerged at about 10am between Ferguson Drive and Moonshine Road.

"Police have major concerns for any people that may have been in the water at the time with the raft," a police statement said.

"[We] are seeking information from anyone who has any knowledge about the raft."
