Opener Tamim Iqbal hit 104 but Bangladesh squandered a chance to take control against England on Friday's opening day of the second Test in Dhaka.

Bangladesh lost 9-49 to be bowled out for 220. The hosts then bowled well to restrict England to 3-50 before rain brought a premature end to the day.

Offspinner Moeen Ali claimed 5-57, his second five-wicket haul, to spark the collapse.

Iqbal lifted his side from 1-1 by combining for a 170-run partnership with Mominul Haque, who made 66.

Ali, aided by fast bowlers Chris Woakes with 3-30 and Ben Stokes with 2-13, stalled Bangladesh's progress.

England lost early wickets, with captain Alastair Cook trapped lbw for 14, Ben Duckett falling for seven and Gary Ballance out for nine.

At stumps, Joe Root was not out 15, with Ali on two.
