English announces Cabinet reshuffle

Prime Minister Bill English has just announced his new Cabinet, with new portfolios for Paula Bennett, Simon Bridges and Alfred Ngaro, among others.

Mr English was sworn in as prime minister last week, following John Key's shock resignation on 5 December. Today, he announced:

Several ministers had indicated before today's announcement they would be leaving Parliament at next year's general election and stepping down as ministers, including Ethic Communities Minister Sam Lotu-Iiga and Associate Transport Minister Craig Foss.

Mr English said earlier that promoting some ministers, but showing others the door, was part of the job of prime minister.
