Equal pay petition handed to parliament

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 6/09/2016

A petition appealing for equal pay for women has been handed over on the steps of parliament.

The Public Service Association says more than 10,000 people signed it, and thousands more sent postcards to parliament.

"Equal pay has been law in New Zealand for more than 40 years but for many women it's as big a fight as a lolly scramble," the PSA said as the petition was handed to Labour MP Sue Moroney.

"Why should men get more lollies than women - the next generation of Kiwi working people don't think that's fair."

The petition will be sent to a select committee which will decide whether to recommend action on it.
