Erakovic loses California qualifying match

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 6/03/2017

Kiwi tennis No.1 Marina Erakovic has run out of steam and lost her first-round qualifying match at the latest WTA tournament in California.

Erakovic saved two match points in the second set but fell away in the decider at the BNP Paribas event in Indian Wells, going down 6-4 6-7 6-1 to American Jamie Loeb.

World No.164 Loeb is the same opponent who beat 107th-ranked Kiwi Erakovic in her last start, during qualifying for the WTA event in Acapulco, Mexico.

The result continues a modest start to 2017 for Erakovic, who has made it to the main draw of tournaments just three times and lost in the first round of each.
