NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 15/07/2016

Marina Erakovic's two-hour battle against German fifth seed Annika Beck at the Ladies Championship Gstaad in Switzerland has ended in first-round defeat.

The New Zealand No.1, ranked 115 in the world, began the rain-delayed match strongly, but 38th-ranked Beck emerged a 3-6 6-2 7-5 victor.

Two weeks out from the Rio Olympics, Kiwi doubles player Marcus Daniell continued his encouraging doubles form in advancing to the final of the Swedish Open in Bastad.

Daniell and Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner ground out a 7-5 6-3 victory over Facundo Bagnis of Argentina and Aljaz Bedene (Slovenia).

They will play the winner of the second semi-final, which pits Spanish second seeds Marcel Granollers and David Marrero against Dustin Brown (Germany) and Australian Rameez Junaid.
