Erakovic well beaten in Morocco final

NZN 30/04/2016

Marina Erakovic ran out of puff in her bid for a second WTA title, losing the final in Morocco in straight sets.

Erakovic was outclassed 6-2 6-1 by top seed Timea Bacsinszky in a lop-sided finish to the Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem tournament in Rabat

World No.15 Bacsinszky needed just over an hour to beat the 186th-ranked Kiwi.

Erakovic couldn't find the energy needed to win an eighth match in eight days at the clay court tournament, having undergone three rounds of qualifying.

The 28-year-old struggled for serving consistency and her second serve was largely attacked by the proficient Swiss right-hander, who claimed a fourth career title.

It was the fifth appearance in a WTA final and the first on clay for Erakovic. She has won only won of them, indoor at Memphis in 2013.

Her world ranking is expected to climb about 60 places next week, having gradually slid since suffering a knee injury midway through last year.
