Economic growth in the eurozone rose by 0.4 per cent at the end of 2016 compared to the previous quarter, the EU's statistics office says.

Economic growth in the eurozone rose by 0.4 per cent at the end of 2016 compared to the previous quarter, the EU's statistics office says.

Growth for the whole of the European Union stood at 0.5 per cent, the office said on Tuesday.

The figures, which have been revised down from a first estimate of 0.5 per cent for the eurozone and 0.6 per cent for the bloc as a whole, show that the growth rate remained unchanged from the third quarter of 2016.

When compared to the fourth quarter in 2015, gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 1.7 per cent in the 19-country eurozone and by 1.8 per cent in the 28-member bloc during the last quarter of 2016, which are also downward revisions from the first estimate.
