Former NRL premiership winner Ben Te'o is set for his international rugby debut after being named on England's bench for the autumn opener against South Africa at Twickenham.

The New Zealand-born Worcester player has been called up as a replacement back after a spate of injuries to Eddie Jones' team.

Jones has made six changes to the starting XV that toppled Australia 44-40 in Sydney in June, a win that sealed a 3-0 whitewash of the series against the Wallabies.

Midfield back Te'o joined English rugby in late 2014 soon after playing in South Sydney's NRL grand final win.

The 29-year-old played for the Junior Kiwis before shifting to Australia aged 17, playing rugby league in Queensland.

Te'o, who also played for the Wests Tigers and Brisbane in the NRL, is one of three potential debutants on the England bench for the Springboks clash.
