Striker Rory Fallon has been ruled out of the All Whites' two World Cup qualifiers against New Caledonia over the coming week because of a family bereavement.

Coach Anthony Hudson says the squad feels for Fallon and his family.

"It is obviously not the news you ever want to hear for a member of the team, so our thoughts go out to Rory and the Fallon family," said Hudson.

"Rory is a big part of this team both on and off the pitch and he will be missed. We wish him all the best."

The 34-year-old Fallon, who has scored six goals in 24 international appearances, is due to leave the squad on Wednesday night and will not be replaced.

New Zealand host New Caledonia in Auckland on Saturday and the teams meet again in Kone next Tuesday.

The two matches are part of Oceania's third stage of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
