Farmers told to secure your sheds

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 10/02/2017

A spate of burglaries from farm sheds in Taranaki in the past few weeks has prompted police to remind people to lock sheds.

Thefts of tools and farm and shearing equipment were first reported from cow and shearing sheds around Awakino and Mahoenui and surrounding areas inland.

Last week, dairy farms were targeted in the Rawhitiroa area, inland from Eltham.

"We are asking our farmers to be vigilant and to ensure their farm equipment is locked away out of sight," says Senior Sergeant Karley Hunt.

Farmers should consider installing CCTV or wireless alert systems and also satellite GPS devices covertly on items such as quad bikes and other machinery which can be tracked if they get stolen.
