Final service due for Sir Graham

Maori leaders are in Northland for the funeral of Sir Graham Latimer.

The former president of the Maori Council died on Tuesday. He was 90.

Many people have gathered at Te Paatu Marae in Pamapuria, Northland, to pay tribute to Sir Graham.

Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell is expected to arrive on Saturday for the final service.

The current chairman of the New Zealand Maori Council, Sir Eddie Taihakurei Durie, has been at the marae where he has spoken about the legacy left by Sir Graham and what it was like to work with him.

Chief Justice Dame Sian Elias has also spoken about the huge role Sir Graham played in her life, Maori Television reports.

Sir Graham rose through the ranks within tribal leadership to influence change.
