Fire has ripped through a Canterbury honey business, destroying a building which stored the product and other equipment.

About 30 firefighters were called to Airborne Honey in Leeston, southwest of Christchurch, on Tuesday night where fire had taken hold of a 30m by 30m building, a Fire Service spokesman says.

They spent about three hours quelling the blaze.

Airborne Honey is a family-owned business which was established in 1910, according to its website.
