NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 9/09/2016

Fire fighters had to work to protect two properties while putting out a fire in a shelterbelt at Paengaroa in the Bay of Plenty.

The shelterbelt is about 200m long and the fire skipped along it on Friday afternoon, says Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips.

The main area of the fire on Te Tumu Road in Paengaroa is out and crews are dampening down hot spots.

Two properties were endangered and were protected by fire fighters, Mr Phillips said.
