Firm re-issues Novopay payroll reports

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 4/11/2016

The company behind a privacy blunder at New Zealand schools on Thursday says education staff will be paid on time after it reprocessed its payroll reports overnight.

Education Payroll Ltd's statement came after New Zealand's largest education union, NZEI Te Riu Road, on Thursday said school principals had mistakenly been sent the names and salaries of other schools' staff.

Education Payroll confirmed on Friday that 10 schools had been affected by the error with the Novopay Online system, while 530 individuals had their information released.

"We have contacted the 10 schools affected and we are continuing to contact the 530 individuals," company chief executive Stephen Crombie said.

He said the company subsequently reprocessed its Staff Usage and Expenditure reports overnight and reissued them correctly.

"School employees pay will be on time and unaffected by the technical problems with the SUE reports," he said.

The company said the error with its SUE reports meant information from one New Zealand school had been made available to principals and administrators at other schools around the country.

"The information was only made available to school principals and administrators," Mr Crombie said.

"Five hundred and fifty two people logged into the payroll system during this time but did not necessarily access the details of the SUE report."

"We regret what happened and ... are working with the office of the Government's chief privacy officer ... (and) undertaking a review to ensure that this problem does not happen again."
