Five teens have been arrested after a police car was rammed during a chase of two stolen vehicles in Hamilton.

Police spotted the two cars, one stolen from New Plymouth earlier in the day and the other from Tauranga, in Hamilton East at about 1am on Thursday.

After failing to stop, the two car led police on an eight-minute pursuit, during which one of them crashed.

The two women in the car received serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and were taken to hospital, police said.

The other vehicle rammed a police car during the chase, only coming to a halt after hitting road spikes and travelling on its rims for a while.

Three men and two women, between 15 and 18, were arrested and face a series of charges including breaching bail.
