Five people injured in Waikato crash

Five people are being treated for injuries after a head-on crash in Waikato.

The crash occurred on Kawhia Road, which is part of State Highway 31, near Tihiroa, shortly before 1pm on Sunday.

A car heading south collided with a north-bound car which had two adults and two children in it, according to the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter service.

A woman in her 30s and an eight-year-old boy, both of whom have abdominal and chest injuries, have been flown to Waikato Hospital and the others have been taken by ambulances.

St John ambulance says four ambulances attended. Four patients are in a serious condition, and another is in a moderate condition.
