The Taranaki blindside flanker recently signed on for two more years with the franchise and has been putting plenty of pressure on the other loose forwards.

"It's been great to get some consistent game time lately. As a squad it's good to have that level of competition" Brown said.

The 23-year-old credits former All Black Liam Messam's guidance as a major reason for his development as a player.

"Liam's helped me a lot - he's been there, done that, for a long time now, so I can learn from him which is good. All the loose forwards are great guys and ready to help me out when they can."

Brown's already excited by the prospect of taking on the British and Irish Lions at Waikato Stadium on June 20 after his successful debut last year when the Chiefs defeated Wales 40-7.

However, Super Rugby remains the focus as the Chiefs prepare to face the Waratahs, who thrashed them 45-25 in Sydney last year, in Hamilton on Saturday.

"We have talked about what we have to do to raise the bar and get through these last three games and get what we need out of them," Brown said.

The Chiefs must also defeat the Hurricanes in Wellington next week and the Brumbies in their last game if they are to finish second in the New Zealand conference.

"The travel's huge in this competition so we really need to make sure we're not travelling to Africa.

"We're aware that we need to up our game a bit to take this championship out but we have definitely got it in us and we're all looking forward to that challenge."
