Fleeing driver pulls gun on police

A manhunt has been launched for a man who pointed a gun in the face of a police officer as he was being chased in Auckland.

Police are looking for 25-year-old Hayden Rizvi after the incident early on Wednesday morning.

They say he was driving a stolen car that refused to stop for police. He ditched the car and fled on foot in Three Kings when he pointed a firearm at the officer's face.

Rizvi then fled over a fence. The officer was not injured but was shaken.

Rizvi has previous links to the Porirua area and has 15 warrants for his arrest for range of serious offences.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man has been charged with assaulting police, after he punched an officer in the face during a routine roadside stop on Tuesday morning.

He punched the officer in the face when he was pulled over on the Southern Motorway. The officer suffered a black eye and a chipped tooth.
