Fletcher wants UK talent for 30-year boom

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 6/07/2016

Fletcher Construction is looking to recruit talent from Britain to prepare for an unprecedented 30-year spell of building projects in New Zealand.

It's starting a recruitment drive with an event in London later this month, trying to lure Brexit-wary Brits with a better quality of life here.

Fletcher has the contract to build the $477-million national convention centre in Auckland and the city is also building a rail link, the western ring road and large five-star hotels.

"I have never seen so much construction activity of such a scale right across New Zealand in my 40 years working in the industry," said construction division chief Graham Darlow.

Fletcher was taking on locals but wanted more people. It believed it would find exceptional people in the United Kingdom, he said.

New Zealand couldn't beat the salaries on offer in Dubai and the recruitment campaign would be based on lifestyle and quality of life - safe, family-friendly and with outdoor opportunities.

Fletcher already employs 19,000 people working in 25 business groups in 45 countries.
