Flu-stricken Curry to miss HK Sevens

All Blacks Sevens captain Scott Curry has been hit with a dose of the flu and will miss the Hong Kong tournament starting on Friday.

Experienced forward Sam Dickson moves into the starting 12 to replace Curry, while DJ Forbes takes over the captaincy duties.

Coach Scott Waldrom says Curry's absence will be sorely felt as the Kiwis hunt their first title in this year's sevens world series.

"It's always a big loss losing your captain so close to kick-off but on the positive side we welcome back the experienced Sam Dickson into the 12, who is a more than adequate replacement," he said.

The All Black Sevens begin their tournament late on Friday with pool matches against Wales, Japan and Fiji.

New Zealand: DJ Forbes, Dylan Collier, Sam Dickson, Iopu Iopu-Aso, Trael Joass, Vilimoni Koroi, Tim Mikkelson, Sione Molia, Joe Ravouvou, Isaac Te Tamaki, Beaudein Waaka, Regan Ware. 13th man: Andrew Knewstubb.
