© NZ Police Police have stepped up efforts to catch four masked people by releasing video footage of the group robbing a Mangere dairy and violently attacking a worker.

The robbery took place at about 7.30pm on Tuesday, when the four people entered the superette on Raglan Street in Auckland's south and caught a dairy worker by surprise, striking him in the back of the head.

One of the masked people then held a knife to the worker's throat before throwing him to the ground and holding him down.

Detective Inspector Fa'amanuia Va'aelua says the footage "will be very disturbing to the community" but he hopes it prompts the family or friends of the alleged attackers to dob them in.

"I have no doubt that someone will recognise these absolute cowards from this footage and from the stills that we posted yesterday," he said.

Det Insp Va'aelua said the masked offenders were "violent [and] dangerous" and police regarded their arrest as a priority.

Since February, 68 people have been arrested across Auckland for aggravated robbery.
