Former All Black halfback Byron Kelleher has been arrested and charged with "destruction and domestic violence" in France, according to local reports.

The 39-year-old was taken into custody from his home in the city of Toulouse in the early hours of Wednesday.

Kelleher had allegedly been drinking with friends and then was involved in an incident where a woman was attacked and a door damaged, L'Equipe reports.

It is not the first time Kelleher has been involved with brushes with the law in France.

Kelleher played 57 Tests for the All Blacks between 1999 and 2007 before moving to play in France.

In 2015 he opened a rugby-themed bar called the Haka Corner in Toulouse, which was criticised back here for using Maori culture for personal and business gain.
