Four hurt in Air NZ turbulence

Four people have been hurt after an Air New Zealand plane coming from Vietnam was forced to turn back in heavy turbulence.

Flight NZ268 from Ho Chi Minh City to Auckland turned around and landed safely at about 8am on Sunday after hitting turbulence 40 minutes into its journey.

Three cabin crew and one passenger received minor injuries and were treated by medical staff, an Air NZ spokeswoman said.

A crew shortage meant the flight back to Auckland was delayed until 7am (NZT) on Monday, with customers offered hotels for the night.

Passenger Emma Te Paa described it as a " flight from hell" in a Facebook post, describing how the injured crew were thrown against the ceiling.

"As the air hostess hands me my tray we hit some really bad turbulence, the plane drops and all my food flies all over the floor and me," she said.

"Everyone is screaming and we have no idea what is going on."
