Four men protect shopkeeper during attack

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 19/05/2016

Four good samaritans have helped protect an injured Auckland liquor store attendant while fighting off and disarming a knife-wielding attacker.

The 25-year-old man was allegedly assaulting the shopkeeper on Thursday afternoon when the four men, described as Polynesians in contractor-type clothing, came to the staff member's aid.

As the four good samaritans confronted the other man, he pulled out a knife.

They fought the man off and managed to disarm him while ensuring the injured shopkeeper was safe, then drove away in their car before police had a chance to speak with them.

The store attendant is receiving treatment for head injuries at Auckland Hospital.

Police have arrested the alleged attacker who will appear in Auckland District Court on Friday.

Any witnesses, including the four men, are urged to speak with police.
