Tall Blacks coach Paul Henare has named four newcomers in a 14-strong squad to prepare for the Rio Olympics qualifying tournament in July.

Canterbury Rams guard Ethan Rusbatch, centre Michael Karena, Nelson forward Finn Delany and Taranaki's Jordan Ngatai are included in the squad that will be trimmed to 12 next month.

Oklahoma City Thunder big man Steven Adams's unavailability was well signposted, as was that of young power forward Tai Wynyard, currently playing college basketball for the University of Kentucky.

Although veteran guards Kirk Penney and Lindsay Tait have retired, Henare still has a solid backbone of experience in Mika Vukona, Tom Abercrombie, Corey Webster, Isaac Fotu and Rob Loe.

New Zealand: Tom Abercrombie, BJ Anthony, Everard Bartlett, Finn Delany, Isaac Fotu, Shea Ili, Michael Karena, Jarrod Kenny, Rob Loe, Jordan Ngatai, Ethan Rusbatch, Mika Vukona, Corey Webster, Tai Webster.
