Four NZ rowers to race Amsterdam regatta

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 2/06/2016

Emma Twigg will join three other members of the Rio-bound New Zealand rowing team for some additional time on the water at the Holland Beker regatta in Amsterdam.

Twigg and the scullers coached by Dick Tonks have split from the bulk of the Kiwi team that contested the World Cup in Lucerne last week.

Twigg will join men's single sculler Mahe Drysdale and women's double scullers Zoe Stevenson and Eve Macfarlane lining up at The Bosbaan.

Twigg is keen to get as much international competition as possible after taking a break from rowing last year to study. She booked her place at the Rio Olympics with victory at last month's qualifying regatta in Lucerne.

Drysdale is coming off victory at the Lucerne World Cup, where he overran his main rival for Rio gold, Ondrej Synek. Synek is also racing in Amsterdam.

World champions Stevenson and Macfarlane weren't at their best at the Lucerne World Cup, placing sixth.

The rest of the Olympic squad is now preparing for the World Cup in Poznan, Poland from June 19.
