Kiwi detective drama, The Brokenwood Mysteries, will be back for a fourth season after it received more than $3.6 million of funding from NZ On Air.

The Prime television series, created by South Pacific Pictures, will air four two-hour episodes next year, continuing the tale of a small town with the highest murder rate in the country.

It is set in the fictitious settlement of Brokenwood and follows relocated big city, country music-loving Detective Mike Shepherd as he and his team investigate deaths in the town.

NZ On Air will also fund a third series of comedy Funny Girls and the Comedy Gala.

A six-part children's drama series Wilde Ride for TV2 will get almost $1m while $200,00 has been allocated for Mediaworks' feature length family story Herbert: The Brave Sea Dog.
