Towering Southern Steel shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Reid's record-breaking season has been acknowledged with the trans-Tasman league MVP award for the New Zealand conference.

Jamaican international Fowler-Reid poured in 681 goals for the unbeaten Steel, who finished with 11 wins and two draws in the regular season, the best of any team.

The 1.98m goal shoot played a massive part, surpassing her own league record for goals in a season of 666 and shooting at a lofty success rate of 91 per cent.

Fowler-Reid won the same award last year and was crowned the league's overall MVP in her debut season in 2013.

Separate conference awards were introduced last season.

"I feel like I have grown a lot this year and I've been happy with how I've been going," she said.

"This year I've started to take shots from further out, pushing me out of my comfort zone, and I've also worked on being much stronger under the post."

Melbourne Vixens midcourter Madi Robinson was named the Australian conference MVP.

After having last week off, the Steel host Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the New Zealand conference final on Sunday.
