Fox second at Scottish tournament

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/06/2016

New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox has made a timely return to form, finishing runner-up at a second-tier Challenge Tour event in Scotland.

Fox carded a seven-under 64 on the final day of the Scottish Hydro Challenge in Aviemore to close on 19-under, two strokes behind English winner James Heath.

Having struggled at a handful of full European Tour events this year, Fox excelled in his second Challenge Tour outing of 2016 to climb to 15th on its money list.

The Kiwi No.2 is locked in a race with third-ranked Michael Hendry to fill New Zealand's second berth at the Rio Olympics alongside Danny Lee.

Qualifying is based on world rankings on July 11. Fox, ranked 221st, held a narrow lead over Hendry (234th) heading into the week.

Japanese Tour regular Hendry kept up the pressure by finishing in a share of fifth at the ISPS Handa Global Cup tournament in Ishikawa.

He also improved on the final day, from 16th place, courtesy of a flawless six-under 65 which left him 13-under.

Korean winner Jun-Won Park beat Argentine Emiliaino Grillo in a play-off after both finished on 17-under.
