New Zealander Ryan Fox slipped to a sixth-placed finish at the Challenge Tour's final event but he has comfortably booked his place among the elite of European golf next year.

Fox dropped two places at the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final in Oman, closing with a one-under 71 on Saturday, the only time he failed to shoot under 70.

His 16-under tally left him five strokes behind German winner Bernd Ritthammer.

More importantly, he finished well ensconced in the top-15 golfers on the secondary tour who have earned full European Tour cards in 2017.

Fox, who went painfully close last year when he ranked 16th, qualified fourth following a consistent season.

He notched a win at the Northern Ireland Open among his seven top-six placings.

Fox's 13 starts were significantly less than the three golfers above him on the money list, including English winner Jordan Smith, who all teed off 20 or more times.
