Ryan Fox has improved to third place with a round to play in the final event of Europe's second-tier Challenge Tour in Oman.

New Zealander Fox remains a chance to finish on top of the tour's money list after climbing to 15-under following a sizzling eight-under 64 at the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final in Muscat.

Two eagles on the back nine, allied with five birdies, helped Fox climb five places and sit three strokes behind German leader Bernd Ritthammer.

Fox is guaranteed a full European Tour card next year, which is granted to the 16 Challenge Tour golfers who top the "Road to Oman" money list.

He was third coming into the week and could usurp English leader Jordan Smith if victorious at the Al Mouj Golf Course on Saturday.
