NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 21/04/2016

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls will visit New Zealand in the first week of May.

Prime Minister John Key announced the two-day visit on Friday, saying Mr Valls would attend events in Auckland, lay a wreath at Auckland War Memorial and hold talks.

"This is the first time in 25 years that a French prime minister has visited New Zealand," Mr Key said.

"We have a close and long-standing relationship with France and I'm looking forward to discussing a number of issues including trade, our mutual interest in the Pacific and the international response to terrorism."

Mr Valls and his delegation will arrive on Sunday May 1 and leave the next day.
