Southern Steel veteran Wendy Frew will pull on the blue bib for her 15th season of netball in 2017 after signing a new deal with the club.

The 31-year-old Frew, who can play in any midcourt position, led the Steel to an undefeated 2016 ANZ Championship campaign before being knocked out in the finals.

Frew said those finals defeats would motivate her team to claim victory in the inaugural New Zealand Elite Netball League.

She hoped the core of the side stayed with the Steel despite the collapse of the trans-Tasman ANZ Championship.

"The performance culture we've created is fantastic and predominantly driven by the players," Frew said.

"We just need to stick together to make the championship a reality next year."

Southern Steel chief executive Lana Winders said Frew epitomised the club's values of hard work and leadership.

The Invercargill-based Frew has played for the Silver Ferns on one occasion.
