Rising New Zealand playmaker Jackson Garden-Bachop has signed a two-year Super Rugby deal with the Melbourne Rebels.

After missing out on a contract with a New Zealand team, the Wellington first five-eighth will cross the Tasman, following a lengthy list of Kiwis to have played in Melbourne.

Garden-Bachop, 22, has also played in the midfield and at fullback in New Zealand age group teams.

The son of former Samoan and All Blacks international No.10 Stephen Bachop, he says the next two years will be a steep learning curve.

"I'm excited to sign my first Super Rugby contract, it's been a goal of mine for the last four years since I left school to take the next step so I'm very happy that Melbourne has given me the opportunity."

Other New Zealanders secured by the Rebels in recent seasons are Tamati Ellison, Adam Thomson, Scott Fuglistaller, Pat Leafa, Jason Woodward and Toby Smith.
