Gate holds third in Ireland

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 25/05/2016

New Zealand cyclist Aaron Gate is still third overall at the midway point of the Tour of Ireland following an uneventful fourth stage.

Despite several climbs on the 163km stage from from Dingle to Sneem, a sprint finish decided the outcome, with An Post Chain Reaction team professional Gate finishing third behind Denmark's Nicolai Brochner and Belgian Emiel Wastyn.

Three members of the New Zealand endurance track cycling squad - Dylan Kennett, Regan Gough and Taylor Gunman - also finished in the peloton while Hayden Roulston, Piet Bulling and Nick Kergozou were further back.

On general classification, Gate remains 5sec behind Austrian leader Clemens Fankhauser and Australian Jai Hindley.
