A British reality television celebrity says he ended up at an Australian deportation centre after not being let into New Zealand because of a battered passport.

Geordie Shore cast member Gaz Beadle last week flew into Queenstown from Australia to take part in a radio promotion, but was told he couldn't come into the country and was sent back the next day.

Immigration New Zealand wouldn't say why the 28-year-old couldn't stay, citing privacy and legal reasons. But in an article for Britain's Daily Star, Beadle says he was turned back because of a beaten-up passport.

"To be fair, they had previously told me not to come back to New Zealand with my battered passport - which I didn't get changed - so I guess me and the team are to blame there," he said. But the situation got significantly worse when he landed back in Australia, where he says he was put in a deportation centre.

"I was walked into this place that was on a military base and was led to a room full of bunk beds with four other guys in it," he said. "Not a jail cell, not a holding cell, a deportation centre."

Beadle detailed the two days he spent at the centre, including buying cigarettes for his cellmate Mohammed, or "Mo", and settling into prison life. "I'm laughing about it now, though at the time I was thought I was going to be stuck there forever with Mohammed," he said.

Beadle said after a night and a day in the centre, he was escorted by immigration officials onto a plane to Bangkok and then back home. The Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection declined to comment.

Beadle has a highly lucrative club appearance career outside of Geordie Shore. His public Lothario persona on screen has helped build a million dollar empire. He owns a club in Greece, has his own clothing line and earns thousands from his club appearances.
