German posties hounded by dogs

Aggressive dogs are hounding German posties with more than 1500 taking time off work every year to recover from dog attacks.

Around 1500 German posties are bitten by dogs each year and Deutsche Post is looking to technology to help alleviate the problem

Deutsche Post CEO Frank Appel says the company's 100,000 posties are trained in dealing with dogs, but that many still have to take time off work for injuries inflicted by attacking canines.

"Aggressive dogs should be brought inside when letter carriers are doing their rounds," Appel said, in a Sunday interview with Germany's Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

He said Deutsche Post was investigating the possibility of using drones for the delivery of some mail and packages.

"At the moment we are testing drones for specific instances, for example for delivering medications to hard-to-reach locations," he said.
