Goff well clear in mayoral poll

Former Labour MP Phil Goff has taken a dominant lead in the race for Auckland's mayoralty, according to a poll.

An online survey conducted for media website The Spinoff has found Goff, a former minister in two Labour governments, is sitting on 31.2 per cent of the vote.

That puts him well ahead of his next rival, former Xero executive Vic Crone, at 8 per cent, and the last election's runner-up, John Palino, at 4.1 per cent.

Rates protester Penny Bright came in at fourth on 2.4 per cent.

However, the survey of 760 Auckland residents found 43.7 per cent of voters were still undecided.

Voting in the Auckland mayoralty closes on October 8.

The poll, conducted by Survey Sampling International, has a maximum margin of error of 3.6 per cent with 4.6 per cent of those survery saying they had no intention to vote.
