Gold Coast go green in NRL finals bid

NZN 3/09/2016 Ed Jackson

It may just be for one day but Gold Coast rugby league fans will become Canberra fans on Sunday.

The Titans' hopes of ending a six-year wait for an NRL finals appearance hinge on the Raiders' clash with Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval.

Saturday's 32-16 loss to North Queensland in Townsville leaves the Titans eighth on the ladder with 27 points.

The Tigers sit ninth on 26 points and need a win over the Raiders to jump into the eight and leave Neil Henry's men ruing what might have been.

Titans recruit Jarryd Hayne is confident his new club can click in the finals if the Raiders do them a favour on Sunday.

"We're a good bunch," Hayne told Fox Sports.

"We play in patches. If we can string a 70-75 minute performance together, we can match it with the best.

"The guys have shown that."

The omens are good for Titans fans, with Ricky Stuart's men on a run of nine-straight wins.

The Raiders also thrashed the Tigers 60-6 this year and roared back from 22-0 down to win 30-22 when the teams met at Leichhardt in 2015.

But doubts persist Stuart might rest players with a top-four finish already secured.

Whichever team the Raiders put out, rest assured there'll be thousands of fans cheering them on from southeast Queensland.
