New Zealand golfer and defending champion Danny Lee is pledging financial support for victims of flooding in West Virginia after the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic was cancelled.

Heavy rain and severe flooding left Tour organisers with no choice but to cancel the tournament in White Sulphur Springs which was scheduled to be played this week.

The flooding has reportedly killed 26 people while the damage has left thousands of people homeless across 44 counties and caused millions of dollars in damage.

New Zealand No.1 Lee, who secured his maiden Tour win at last year's Greenbrier Classic, will contribute to a support fund through his performance at this week's Scottish Open at Aberdeen.

He will contribute $US500 ($NZ700) for every birdie and $US1000 for every eagle made the tournament.

"I wish I could be playing at the Greenbrier Classic this week to defend my title and spend time with the fans in West Virginia," Lee wrote.

"I am happy that the Danny Lee Foundation can give back to the tournament and surrounding area by making a donation."
