Governor-General to be farewelled in style

Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae will be given a state farewell on Wednesday at a ceremony that includes a 21-gun salute.

The motorcade is due to arrive on parliament's forecourt about 11:40am when there will be a powhiri and greetings from Mr Key, the chief of the Defence Force and parliament's Speaker.

After a Royal salute and the 21-gun salute there will be a state luncheon in parliament with speeches by Mr Key, Sir Jerry and opposition leader Andrew Little.

The governor-general designate, Dame Patsy Reddy, will be sworn in on September 28.
