Green MP canvases gender pay support

Gender should be added to payroll reporting requirements to ensure women are being paid what they're worth, Green MP Jan Logie believes.

Her bill to amend equal pay legislation will come before Parliament for its first reading on Wednesday night and she's calling on her colleagues to support the move.

She claims secrecy around wages are to blame for some women continuing to be underpaid for the work they do.

"A significant cause of why women are paid less is unconscious employer bias," she said.

"Seeing the pay difference made clear in black and white will mean employers can change what they have been doing."

Ms Logie said it would also give women information to assist them in salary negotiations or to make an equal pay case.
