Catalans Dragons have been dealt a double injury blow following their first defeat of the Super League season.

Forward Greg Bird, who has made a big impact on his return to the French club, has been ruled out for six to eight weeks with a broken thumb sustained in Friday's (Saturday AEDT) 46-10 defeat by Leeds at Headingley.

And former Huddersfield and Salford winger Jodie Broughton is facing a lay-off of between four and six months after scans confirmed he suffered a torn bicep in the same game.

The Perpignan club say Bird will undergo surgery on Monday while Broughton is due for an operation next Friday.
