Australia's Greg Chalmers has extended his lead in the US PGA Tour's Barracuda Championship at Reno on the back of a solid third round.

The 42-year-old Chalmers recorded eight birdies and a bogey, picking up 15 points and opening a six-point advantage over his rivals in the only event on the Tour to use a modified Stableford format.

High points totals rather than low scores count in the tournament in Nevada - formerly known as the Reno-Tahoe Open.

America's Ben Martin was the only player to sign for a better score than Chalmers in the third round, with eight birdies earning him 16 points and a share of second with compatriot Gary Woodland.

Scotland's Martin Laird, who led after the first day at Montreux Golf and Country Club, picked up six points after four birdies and two bogeys, leaving him fourth.
