Gun collector burgled, 11 firearms stolen

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 18/05/2016

A Northland gun collector has been burgled with 11 high-powered submachine guns and assault rifles stolen during the break-in.

The occupants of the Dargaville property found they had been burgled on Tuesday afternoon, and several electronic items have been stolen along with the high-powered weapons.

It is believed that the guns were properly secured.

Forensic staff along with front-line police officers have begun an investigation and are searching for a white station wagon that was spotted near the house at the time of the break-in.

Anyone who has seen the car are urged to contact police.

Police say they are very concerned that weapons of this calibre are likely now in the hands of a criminal fraternity.
