NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 22/07/2016

Two gang members have been charged after weapons and a cannabis growing operation were uncovered during raids in Christchurch.

Police say the Rebels headquarters at Aranui and a house in the CBD were searched by detectives on Wednesday.

A sawn-off shotgun, a .22 rifle and a sophisticated cannabis growing operation were discovered.

Two gang members, aged 56 and 22, were arrested and charged with drugs and weapons offences.

Christchurch police set up a taskforce to target gangs in March and they have now executed 175 search warrants and seized assets worth $5 million, including 87 firearms.

"Increasingly we are discovering firearms and other weapons at these addresses and that is extremely concerning," Inspector Corrie Parnell said.
