Martin Guptill missed out at the Indian Premier League player auction.

Martin Guptill has blasted the first half-century of his short Indian Premier League career in a winning cause for Kings XI Punjab.

The destructive Black Caps opener, playing just his fifth IPL game, raced to an unbeaten 50 off 27 balls in a 10-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in Chandigarh.

Delhi were dismissed for a paltry 67, a tally which was overhauled by Guptill and South Africa's Hashim Amla (16 not out) inside eight overs.

Black Caps captain Kane Williamson was also effective in a support role for Sunrisers Hyderabad in a 48-run home defeat of the competition-leading Kolkata Knight Riders.

Williamson continued some good form with 40 off 25 balls as the David Warner-inspired hosts reached 209-3. Kolkata responded with 161-7.

Australian opener Warner punished the visitors with 126 off 59 balls.

A vibrant Williamson has scored 204 runs in his four innings at an average of 68 and strike rate of 123.
